Architecture, Festivals and The welfare state

Architecture

Copenhagen has for many years had a profile of houses that are only up to 18 meters or maximum 6 floors. But the latest years have seen a rise in tall buildings. We are not talking about Ras El khalif in Dubai, but over 30 floors. And everytime there is a lot of debat. The newest thing is that investors want to raise a 300 meter tall building in the area of Nordhavn. A lot of the people of Copnhagen thinks it is a bad idea. Tall buildings brings long shadows and strong winds.

The investors thinks that it is too much that the tallest houses in Scandinavia is in Sweden, The Turning Torso in Malmø, Which is visibel from Copenhagen. But We – The People – feels that houses should be for the multitude, not the elite.  (Picture from the entrepraneurs)

Roskilde Festival

The welfare state

Bernie Sanders, and the US left wing, has for a long time been talking about Denmark and the Scandinavien Countrys, as an example of a better social system, with free healthcare, free education, maternal leave – and higher taxes. In this article from The Washington Post, the writer is describing the system, and why she thinks it is difficult for the USA. The key word is ”Social Trust”.

So you should head to Dronning Louises Bro, and buy a coffee or a six pack of beers, and sit and hang out, listen to the local DJ´s watch the bikes driving past, and ask around for the nearest party. Go with the flow, and get indoor before it gets to cold.

Fashion

What is this thing with danes and Happiness?

At all times danish people are on the top of the list with the happiest countrys in the world. How come, when we live half the year in winter, where there are no lights, the sky is grey, and it is freakingly cold?
First of all, we drink a lot of alcohol. There is no legal drinking age, and it is not difficult for a 15 year old, to go to a shop and buy beer. Secondly we take a lot of prozac, and related pharmaceuticals. That also helps. 😉

More seriously, you can say that we are the least unhappy people. There is a high living standard, a high degree of social service, and a health care system that works. So there are not so many things to worry about. Denmark is pretty safe, and there is a high degree of trust between the citizens individually, and between the people and the authorities. So you can use more time on doing something good for yourself.

This article also presents and idea, that partly the explaines the word “Hygge”, and how it influences life

So have a nice day. See you in the streets of Copenhagen. 🙂

When is spring coming?

The submarine case.

Have you wondered why there are people and camera crews at Nytorv? They are following the trial at the city court, where the submarine builder, Peter Madsen, is accused of killing the swedish Journalist Anna Waal, and chopping her up, and trying to hide it by dropping her body parts, at the bottom of the sea. Very bloody and dramatic.

Warm in the dark
The days are getting longer, and now we have more day than night. But despite this, it is still F#cking cold in Copenhagen, and we had snow last night. This is a good time to go indoors and find a seat in the dark movie Theater. The Cph dox documentary film festival is still going on, until sunday 25th. You can find the programme here: https://cphdox.dk/en/
