Happy New Year from Bo

I wish you and all of your friends and Family a happy new year. Its time to buy a new calender to your wall. We are going into the 20´s with a lot of good spirit and Man made climate changes. Take care of your self out there because the fireworks are going lower this year.
In Pusherstreet in Christiania they say that you can see on the amount of fireworks, if it has been a good year selling drugs. I can tell you from looking out of my window on Nørrebro, That there is a lot of fireworks ont he street and in the sky. So the drug business must be good out here.

Happy Winter Solstice from Bo

Suddenly the Streets are empty. There is plenty of room on the bike tracks, and its no problem to find parking space for your car. What has changed? Its Xmas and half of the Copenhagen population have gone back to the family in Jutland. I Guess they are playing “Driving home for Xmas”, on the way. Speaking of Xmas songs: I am dead tired of all these songs playing in Christmas. Its the only time of year, where you just have one kind of songs. And its the same, year after year. I am not looking forward to January, because I like the Christmas party´s and Holidays. Well anyway. Happy winter solstice – The days are getting longer again.

Another Danish Rap gang from the 1990´s is Den Gale Pose, with Jokeren in front. They are back at Lille Vega, giving you there old hits, and most probably with some guest on the stage.

Mary Nantayiro’s are performing with a New song Release Party. At Operaen it will be afropop, dancehall, reggae, afrobeat and everything in between! Bring Cash for entrance and Bar.

Copenhagen is coming more alive in the autumn.

Back in 2008, after 1½ years of constant demonstrations, Ungdomshuset opened up again in September. And that is to be celebrated, so this weekend it starts with a Galla dinner on Thursday, and Friday and Saturday there are concerts both at Dødsmaskinen and in Salen. The program is both Hip Hop, Punk and Drum n Bass. Cheap and warm Beers for cash only.

For some happy danceable Pop Rock Loppen is the place. Tacocats from Seattle are here, with something that reminds me of good old Junior Senior. Supported by Twen also from the US. Very Indie like.

Electronics of the 1970´s with self-built instruments, and inspiration from Kraftwerk and tangerine dreams. At Alice you are finding Apparat Organ Quartet from Iceland. It moves into danceable rhythms , And sounds good. Supported by Triple x SNAXXX, who are doing more of the same stuff.

Stengade has a visit from Norwegian Death Metal band Blood Red Throne. They are still going strong after 21 years as a band, so this is your change to do some head banging. Another Dead metal band are supporting. Skanderborg are sending wayward Dawn.

Red Warszawa are performing at Amagerbio, with another of their Crazy Shows. Its really entertaining, so why don´t go? Supported by Vrävarna and Demolizer.

Fastpoholmen is a Danish / Swedish Folk-Reggae-World band. They are really putting up some sweatier concerts, and I like them in a smaller venue than Store Vega. But maybe they have just grown to big for the smaller clubs. Check them out. They are getting better and better.

For some ethnic Hip Hop with world rhythms head for Alice. From Ecuador comes Kingman, who has been living most of his life in the Amazonas Jungle. If you want to move your feet and your hips, this is where you should go.

This week Loppen are apparently only taking non European Indie bands in. This Saturday it is Australia, who are delivering. The Stroppies are from Melbourne, and are on there first tour, after releasing there first album. So they are a new hope for the future. Holm are a local support band.

Halshug is one of the best new metal bands. Since Debut in 2012 they have become more mature , and have slowed down a bit, but are playing just as loud. On the tour they have come to Stengade , and are supported by Deformation, who are more like Hard Core Punk.

Tuesday 17th

Mystery Lights are said to be one of the best Garage rock bands right now. Listening to them, I have difficulties in hearing the garage part of it, but it sounds interesting like Kinks and a bit of psych. Good guitar work and old School organs. Supported by DYGL, which is Japanese, and more of the same kind. It might be an interesting Tuesday evening at Loppen.

Samba from Hell? Satanique Samba Trio, are at Alice, and are performing Alternative, Experimental Free Jazz samba for your poor ears. And its a 5 piece trio from Brazil. But the name stuck.

Wednesday 18th

Most people – and Clubs – move the birthday to the next weekend. But not in Stengade. Its Wednesday the 18th so why not celebrate with a couple of Australian rock bands. Anyway here are DZ Deathrays and Press Club, all the way from Down Under. Listening to the two hard rock Bands, I think Press club is the best. For 9.99 kr in the entry, this must be the best value for the money of this week.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY STENGADE !!!

Photo: Nexö at Nostalgifuratu in Rockmaskinen last Saturday. Not the last time I see them.

Thursday 22nd

Loppen is finally opening again after the summer break. She Wants Revenge, is a California rock band, playing Rock, with a dry guitar, and good vocals. I can here some Post Punk Bauhaus here. The other band is Gliss, that has been around in many years, and are now releasing there 7th album. Its a bit more Indie dreamlike, with soft vocals.

Matt Woods is from Tennessee and is visiting Lygtens Kro with his simple Folk/Country/Rock and songs of social problems from the real life. I am thinking a bit of Bruce Springsteen. I will be at the floor.

Operaen are hosting a new concert organiser. Alterlatino are presenting Tunche Soundsystem, and it is a live band “an explosion of musical anarchy that revolutionizes the fusion between Latin rhythms and electronic sounds.” Could be good for showing your dancing skills at the Floor.

Just around the Corner from Operaen, you find Christiania Jazzklub, and here they are opening after the summer break. Apartment are having a release party, and the organiser – Regns rec – are having other Live names and DJ´s on he Bill. I don’t know them, but it will for sure be an interesting evening. Bring cash for the door and the bar.

Tuesday 27th

Eels (Or just E) are back in Denmark. Last time he played at the Royal Theatre, but now he is are more fitting place: The Grey Hall of Christiania. His text filled with sorrow and pain (and a great humour), goes right to the heart, so I will be at the floor listening to the great band. Supported by Robert Ellis

Thursday 28th
Northern Africa is still a very male dominated area. Therefore it is very unique that Asmâa Hamzaoui has started her own Gnawa group Bnat Timbouktou as the first female gimri musician in Morocco. Gnawa is a rich tradition where suggestive, ritual music is combined with poetry and dance to reach trance. Of course its at Alicecph

At Mojo Blues Bar in the City, you can find Johnny Rawls who swings the guitar to Old School Blues. He is 67 years and still going strong. Only a few tickets left for your dose of the real thing. Nobody can copy this.

Happy Xmas (War is over)

The John Lennon / Yoko Ono christmas song is iconic. But war is not over, even if you want it.  The war goes on all platforms, and you are in the center of it. The war for your time, the war for your money, the war for your freedom, The war for your _____________________ (please fill in).
So keep on fighting, to the be the one you want to be.

Tuesday
Bauhaus is an iconic band from the 1980´s with post punk scene. I never really considered them Goth, but they have received a lot of attention from the Goth community. Peter Murphy, the lead singer and composer, are performing the classic Bauhaus songs at Vega. I saw the same show about 5 years back, and its really good. And suits the depressing weather.

For those who are searching for a bit of heavy on a tuesday, the road will lead you to Amager Bio and Lucifer. They are from the forests of Sweden. Supported by Local Skinny Violet, who have left the garage,to play some rock.

Wendesday
The Blue Van at Hotel Cecil. Its really good positive pop rock, which you might need in these hard times.

Thursday
The Christiania Jazzclub and Børneteatret have many differet shows. Today theres a English spoken Hip Hop arrangement, with Jethro Alonestar Sheeran and the guy who is always everywhere: Al Agami. They call it Hip Hop, but i will bet my old cap, that it will be more like Rap with jazzy notes.

Friday
The oldest NYC Ska band are still going strong, and are on a worldtour. The Toasters are visiting Loppen, and I would be there, if it wasn´t  for the julefrokost I am attending.  Polish you Dr. Martens and get going.

This years Xmas show at Alicecph: The Kutimangoes are playing Hot Hot Hot Afrobeat. Enjoy and dance.  They are the best Afrobeat act in town right now.

I first saw Danko Jones many years back in Stengade. Now he has made it big, with many tours, and last time he was at Roskilde Festival 2017. Pure Rock´n Roll at Pumpehuset

To warm up your heart in this cold weather go for Seven Inch Orange at Operaen. They are playing good old soul music, from the 1960´s and 70´s No doubt where the inspirations are coming from, and its really good, with a lot of horns.

Thursday
Do you remember Rodriques who just came out of nowhere, with an album from the end of the 1960´s and just blew everybody away? Its the same story with the UK Singersongwriter Washti Bunyan  who is playing in a concert arranged by Alicecph, but taking place Nørrebro Teater in Ravnsborggade.

Cinema

At Huset they are shoving free outdoor films. It is old school cult films like Hair (Milos Foreman), Braindead (Peter Jackson) and Beneath The Valley of the Ultra Vixens (Russ Meyer): they show it in the court yard, which is quit small, so come in good time. 🙂

Dance

Dancing in the summer is so nice, and now you can see the Dancers at Ofelia Square at the harbour. They open the doors one hour before, and there are 150 free seats. It runs for 3 days – August 9-11th, and the setting is absolut marvelous with the Copenhagen harbour as background. Starts at 3 and 7 PM

Food

Street food, has been the new thing in Copenhagen the last years, and in the weekend you can join the Street Food Festival at Nørrebro by the lakes. So a lot of small tasties, and you wont leave hungry.

In the summer time

The summer keps on being absolutely fantastic. The weather is so warm, the water in the harbour is nice to swim in, so right now you get the best that Copenhagen can offer.

Carpark Festival July 27-28th is placed at the parking lot under the Aabuen highway on the border between Frederiksberg and Nørrebro. They present upcoming bands from Copenhagen and surroundings, so you can find something that suites your music taste. It is free, and there are bars and food trucks.

And there are more upcoming bands in Huset, where the ”Summer in the City” festival is taking place. Its free entry and right in the center of the Copenhagen, so it should be easy to find.

Feel like dancing?

Blågårds plads in Nørrebro is hosting a big dance event by Metropolis. It will be quite spectacular when the 100 dancing Copenhagers perform the space specific choreography by Joanne Leighton. There are two performences at 4 and 7 o´clock PM. It sounds lie a unic experience. Read More

Son of Bob

He will never get rid of the legacy of his father: Reggae legend Ziggy Marley is on tour and he is presented in Vega on July 25th. Ziggy is both doing some of his own stuff, but it shold be possible to hear some of Bob Marley classics as well.

Remember Aqua? Barbie Girl? They are headlining concerts sponsored by Tuborg Breweries, together with Lukas Graham, Danish Rock legends DAD and a bunch of other bands. The concert is in Valby Parken on sunday 29th and starts at 1 PM. It might be a good idea to buy your ticket in advance.

Eclipse

Take a good look at the moon. On friday around 9.30 PM it turns all red, when there is a lunar eclipse during full moon. Its easy to see from the ground, and since its just after the rise of the moon in the east, it is best seen from the Amager Beach. You can bike out there, or take the Metro. And the weather should be bright and clear.
