Pisstortion is Back

The Pistortion Party is back in Copenhagen. Its the wildest Party on the Planet Denmark. Wednesday its Nørrebro, and Thursday its Vesterbro. The Neighboors hate it, and I am in a Limbo. Some places there are to many drugs, but the sheer chaos around it is appealing, and that you can make such a big party in your normal environment is beautiful. The rest of the week its at Refshaleøen, and a little bit more quiet.

If you are not in the mood for Distortion, you can go to Stengade or Alicecph.com, where they have five days of presenting the 1 year Students from the Rhytmic Conservatorium Copenhagen RMC. Good and new, young Music, and its free. 2nd to 7th of June.

Another place to avoid Distortion is in Pumpehuset, with Udgårdsfest 2019. Headname is Finnish Moonsorrow and Norwegian Trollfest, and with 3 other bands in the two days the Fest I taking, there is plenty of opportunity to stay in your metal Bubble.

Podcast Festival at Hotel cecil, with a lot of listening, and talks. Close your eyes and enjoy the darkness.

This weeks Blog is a little short, since time is running to fast for me. Thats the ways it goes. … I have to take care of myself. 🙂

Live Music

Wednesday 29th
If you want to continue the Distortion indoor, then Pumpehuset is the right place to go. Berlin based Âme / Frank Wiedemann (LIVE) – Marcus Worgull Matthew Dekay Are here to keep the Party going and your feet moving.

Tuhaf is this Turkish – Danish Psych band, that at are such Great performers. Now they are at Kayak Bar by the water, so when you finish the Hot dancing you can take a dip in the nice cold water.

Thursday 30th
For those of you who are fleing the Distortion on Vesterbro, Stengade in Nørrebro is the answer. Monolord is Swedish – Goteborg Doom Metal.

Or head for Riesen I Vesterbro, where President Fetch is making a Punk Rock Party. Come early as it sells out fast.

Some of the first Danish Hip Hop back in the late 1980´s was MC Einar and Humleridderne. Two legenday bands, that are now back at the stage at Halvandet on Refshaleøen. It will be a trip down memory lane with these two Coepnhagen legends.

Friday 31th
Trip Hop in stengade this day. Its to US band on tour Xeno & Oaklander and Void is filling in the stage. It is film music on a higher level, so you can enjoy this evening.

Thorbjørn Risager and The Band: The Black Tornado is playing raw Blues music, like they were born in the southern USA. Its swinging and is played with great enthusiasm and skills. A tight evening at Hotel Cecil.

Martin Hall, is doing a Spoken Word performance at Skt Lukas Kirken in Frederiksberg. A good chance to sit down and get some reflections into your life. There is also some jazz, and Tapas and Redwine.

Saturday June 1st
Black Lips, is difficult to put in a box. Its a little bit of Pop, Garage, Lo Fi, but they have a lot of energy that they cant udse for anything else. Been going on for 20 years, and now Loppen are putting them on stage. Really worth going to.

Romperayo sounds like a fast moving musical journey through Colombian tropical folklore, a mischievous and modern interpretation of the up-tempo rhythms of descarga and the psychedelic sounds of 70s cumbia. Its nice and easy and ready to go dancing at Alice.

In Ungdomshuset you can go and get rid of your aggresions on the Dance Floor at this Straight Edge event. Urano, Afmagt and Puke Wolf is at stage in Dødsmaskinen. Cash Only and earplugs is also a good idea.

A week before Copenhagen Carnival takes over the city, Operaen, Christiania are inviting you to the pre-carnival party at Operaen, Christiania. Copenhagen-based A Banda brings their Brazilian big band and dance show to Operaen in Christiania. Dance along to samba, samba-reggae, frevo, and more.

Sunday June 2nd
The four day weekend is almost over, But If you are into a Solo Grand Piano and a lonely voice, you can head out for Hotel Cecil and Canadian Spencer Krug. Its lyrics that brings you alive, and a fantastic Piano. If you like this kind of Music, its a must.

Monday 3rd
Deerhunter is back, this time at Pumpehuset. The Indie Rock Band has the last ten years had several cool albums, and is not looking back. Now they have invited Cate Le Bone in as a producer and temporarily member.

May 1st, May 4th and Cinco Mayo

Now it is almost summer, and then two outdoor places are opening up: Byhaven, is the Court yard of Pumpherston, and they have free concerts all summer. Check out the programme here.
At Tivoli the concerts are not free. You have to pay the entrance anyway (200 kr Friday after 19.00) I will off course update you on the good bands who are playing. But May starts out with real shitty weather, so its bad timing.

Design
The Danish Design Festival is starting up from May 1st and runs until may 13th. There are exhibitions, event, Talks and much more. You can find the full program here.

Smoking
You can join The International Marijuana march. It start at saturday May 4th 1 PM from Christiania, and takes a loooooong route around in Copenhagen. They have a plan, but if everything goes as usual, it wll be delayed. If you are joining later, then find the March by the Smell 😀

Liberty
Remember that Saturday May 4th is the day it was announced the surrender of the Nazis in 1945 after the 2nd WW. In Copenhagen it is celebrated in the evening with putting lights in the windows. There is a march in Vesterbro from Halmtorvet. And now – more than ever – we need to stand against racism and hatred.

Thursday 2nd
Ska lovers should go out for The Scandinavian Ska Festival. Its in different venues, mainly around Kødbyen, and there are both Battles and concerts. I think its the first time for the Festival, and I hope I can go and do some nice dancing.

Its Straight Edge In Ungdomshuset when Finisterre (de) Dark hardcore from Köln, Germany Weak Ties (de)
Fastcore/powerviolence from Bielefeld, Germany and Rot Away (cph)
Blackened hardcore from Copenhagen.
ROT AWAY is the Denmark’s newest hardcore outfit. Playing out of Copenhagen, the newly formed quartet, plays a mixture of old school metal and blackened hardcore. Cash Only !!!

It seems like Greek psych is a special thing and here it is again: Naxatras are inspired by early Pink Floyd but also with a touch of Black Sabbath in there more psychedelic period. The other band is Rezn from the USA, who are more of the same. Remember your drugs, and go on a trip in deep space. Stenagde are putting up the stage.

Alicecph.com has a full program. Thursday its very experimental Avantgarde. London five-piece HOUSEWIVES are a genreless band who play experimental music that points to the future. Leisure is more Punk like, and I come to remember ”Dyreforsøg from the 1990´s” .

In Mayhem – on the border between Nørrebro and Østerbro – they are not so glad for making event on Facebook. So I don’t now what to say about the three days of music they are presenting. But touch the Link and see if you are wiser than I am.

Fastpoholmen are performing there Danish /Swedish Folk/ World Music in Tivoli on “Lille fredag”. Its not for Free, but cost 130 Kr. Its a good band, but the setting could be better.

At Bartof Station you can find Ron Melancon, from South States USA. Its Dark Country, in the style of Johnny Cash/ Tom Waits, though I doubt that Ron has ever taken serious drugs, or been to prison. 😉 But its a good voice and a good band.

I Kind of like the Danish Band Sterling. There pop with light lyrics is nice, and here they are at Vega, Ideal Bar.

Friday 3rd
For the Old school legend seekers Loppen Is presenting Black Sheep, who is East Coast Hip Hop. With scratching and a fantastic MC, this can be an unforgettable evening at Loppen. Al Agami is supporting and will have troubles with matching the head name.

More psychedelic at Stengade this evening with three bands entering the stage. While Swedish Hällas (Folk inspired ) and local Grusom are melodic stoner then Swedish Bomber are more straight away Heavy Metal Rock. So join the forces of fans, and find your ear plugs and move your Ass to Stengade.

There is a lot of the new Heart Breaker Danish Pop songs that I dislike, with too much Autotune. But First Flush are different. They are Danish Lyrics that are worth listening to, and a little bit psych. Karens Minde in Sydhavn are hosting First Flush.

Saturday 4th
Greenland is on Focus at Loppen with Four bands from the not so cold anymore land. Nive Nielsen & The Deer Children, Don Maliko, Sound of the Damned, Suluit . The Music is very diverse with everything from Native folk, Heavy Metal and Indie. Both in English and Inuit

Disco and Ungdomshuset? Yes, its tonight when you are invited to this party, with Live bands and DJ´s . They call it Groovy days in Funktown, and you should bring your best dancing shoes and cash for drinks bar.

The Dispensary is a Whiskey / Beer Bar in Outer Nørrebrogade. They have concerts in the cellar, and this Saturday its Eamon McGrath who is performing with deep felt social realistic songs.

Dark thinking People from the 1980´s Copenhagen Post Punk Scene, should go for Barbue in Huset, where there is a revival party. Sort Morfar, Tristan T and The Tide are performing, so find your Black suit and get down to it.

Punks Undead is back at Underwerket. This time with De Gule Sinker, Dungeon days and Out of Bounds. The first two are locals, the last one is from Aalborg. Ive seen De Gule Sinker before, but its more Hard rock than Punk, so Maybe Punks are really Dead? Remember Ear plugs. 🙂

In Bolsjefabrikken its Old school Hip Hop called ”Back from the Grill party Vol 1”. Stage performances includes Kuku Agami, Dark Matter and Cobra Commander and DJ´s are also here to make your evening swell. Cheap Entry and beer, and its Cash only.

I had to Google Cinco de Mayo to find out what’s its really about. But something about the Mexicans beating up the French in 1862, and today its mostly celebrated in the USA with drinking beer. In High Voltage they also like you to buy there Beer, and on stage they have Hola Ghost (Mexican Psychobillie), Zak and the Krakens (Surf) and Cecilia is dropping by to show you how to swallow a sword.

Gangway is Back!!! the 1980´s Indie Pop band with the catchy tunes are now at Store Vega. They are 30 years older, so it can exiting to see if they still have the grip.

Sunday 5th
Black Tusk and Mirror Queen, are both Metal / Sludge bands from Savannah and NYC. I don’t think you will be disappointed with the wilderness performed on the stage at Loppen!!! Black Tusk call there music “Swamp metal”.

Tami Nielson is different. Its both soul with a snatch of cabaret, and I think she is sexy as hell. Her album is called Sassafrass, so she is a bit Sassy. Its at Amager Bio you can witness this Live performance.

Monday 6th
Noisy Beehive is an experimental music venue, an independent record label and an art collective, based in Copenhagen.   Mavi Express – a Copenhagen- based trio bringing together musicians of various nationalities and backgrounds. With instruments such as bouzouki, violin, electric guitar, and percussion Lo thrives in the intersection between folk and indiepop music and with her charismatic voice and personality.

Brooke Candy describes her sold as “JANE GOODALL meets JAYNE MANSFIELD ”. Its hard pop, with a strong voice at Lille Vega. She could be the next thing on bigger stages, but still needs the song to Break trough.

Thursday 25th
Natteravn is a concept that is difficult to grasp. Its blacker than Black in the whitest snow. Some sort of performance art project with Trine Trash // Claus Poulsen and Søvnterapeuterne. Snuff soundscapes, Noisescapes, and a lot more. In Slagterhusgade in Kødbyen. Very avantgarde.

The Boss of Lygtens Kro is celebrating her birthday with a party and a concert when Katla is dropping by. Its Swedish. Its Noise. Its Heavy. Its Stoner. Wölfblood is the other band on this Danish Birthday Party.

In Loppen they have a psych evening with Cosmic waves, Skifting and Måneskjold who are all local bands doing the psychedelic thing. Inspiration is Both from Jefferson Airplane, but also from Late 1960´s Danish Psych. There are so much happening on the psych scene in Copenhagen these years. Its a Pleasure!!!

For Metal heads its Ungdomshuset who is calling this weekend. Northern Discomfort is a three day festival with mostly bands from Germany and Scandinavia. For the quality of the music its great value for the money. A 3 day ticket is 250 Kr. Remember your ear plugs and Cash for the bar and , merch area.

Its not easy to have name like Teenage Fanclub, and then be growing older. But it has happened to the Scottish Band, that broke through in the start of the 1990´s with simple pop and vocal harmonies. Now they are back in Lille Vega so here is a trip down memory pop lane for you.

Friday 26th
The Keep Nørrebro Weird Parade is curated by four vinyl-loving, self-publishing record stores. The parade starts at Blågårds Plads, continues with a concert at every record store, and finishes at Den Sorte Plads with a massive opening party. From the basement studios of Nørrebro to the open sky, this will be a tour de force of uncompromising niche music.

In Alicecph.com they are having a 2 day festival: Alice Spectacle. Its both Global, Jazz, experimental, Roots… and spread out on different venues. If you are going for just one concert, then my advice is the Les Freres Smith with 12 people on stage and sure to make your body move with Afro Beat tunes.

Stengade is part of the 48 hours festival at Nørrebro. Check out more details here: https://www.stengade.dk

At alicecph.com they are continuing the Spectacle festival. And also at Stengade the 48 hour festival.

Operaen at Christiania have Cumbia-reggae and chicha-punk mixed in a tropical casserole of distorted guitars, güiro and song. Alicecph is a Jazz / World Music venue. So its a bit strange that they have this Doom metal evening with three bands: Sumac (US), Baptist (Can) and Nordra (US). Its a bit more experimental than your normal Metal, so expect something different. And try something new for a change.

Stengade has an evening of Dark Electro Pop, when Sally Dige, Totem, and Mouth wound are coming. Its all electronics one person bands, taking you into the dark realms of not feeling so good.

Nina Simone is one of the greatest. In this Tribute Concert she is being celebrated as one of the Rebel heroes she was. The voice take over is by South African Maria Thandie. Its at Råhuset, Vesterbro.
I believe that Night church is a special Danish Phenomenon. Where the church opens in the evening for a live concert . This evening it is at Sct. Lukas Church in Frederiksberg where French inspired Electro Pop Tele Rouge are performing. It is a reunion, so you will here an old band performing a lot of new songs.

A real carnival at Alice Cph! You thought you knew everything about soul-funk sauce made in USA. Turn on your turntables again, because the Brazilians from the Black Rio Band are landing for a lesson of pictorial and explosive stuffs.

Saturday 23rd
Stillborn is a Danish / Swedish Doom Metal band, that has recently been reunited, after they where popular in the 1980´s . It´s at high Voltage, and they are supported by Skærsilden, and DJ’s coming in. So it will be a good evening, with sweaty metal in your ears.

Cheerful Grooves is a music collaboration that portraits a meeting of musicians from Brazil, Denmark, Mozambique and Norway, they bring their own compositions to the circle, where all get to express and interpret in their original flavour, background and influences finding their place in the music. Råhuset

In Forbrænding in Albertslund West of Copenhagen they have made a decision: In 2019, they will only have female artists. It has created quite an uproar. I Support the thing. We need to get more focus on female artist. The music scene has always been male dominated. We need to change that.
This Saturday Radiant Arcadia is taking over the Stage at Forbrændingen. Its women from all over the world. A mix of Cultures and religions getting together and singing. A brilliant band that I can strongly recommend. Note: Starts at 16.00

Every DJ would like to think themselves a real musical connoisseur, but Hunee really is. The Electronic DJ is at Culture Box, so put on your dancing shoes and get going.

For the nerdy Metal fans should head for Mayhem in Østerbro. 5 of the most gruesome Death Metal bands Denmark has to offer right now collectively making Saturday March 23rd an extremely rotten death metal night”

Loppen has visitors from Germany when Die Nerven and Levent are giving a concert. Its Post Punk and No wave, with references to Joy Division and Sonic Youth.

Sunday 24th
As you well know Sundays are for going to Church and for prayers. Well if you pray for some Hardcore Punk Music, then your Church will be at Ungdomshuset. Geld from Australia, Disguise (Eire) and Cesspool (Cph) are saving your Sunday soul.

Tuesday 26th
Swedish Siena Root are coming to Lygtens Kro. It sounds like something taken from the 60´s Psychedelic scene. With an old Hammond Organ and they also have a old school tape recorder on stage. I will look forward to this concert. 🙂

Lost Under Heaven are from Manchester UK, and it´s both Rock and Post Punk, with a very characteristic voice. They are working on being the next big thing from UK, and I hope they will succeed. It has been a long time since we have had good news from Great Britain.

Photo: Beer and Springtime. Life is good 😀

Take your time. Relax and Breath…

It seems like the city of Copenhagen is finally awakening after Christmas and January. So now all the venues are open again, and there is a lot of good live music. Also the Winter Jazz Festival is still here with many interesting Concerts. And there is also the Copenhagen Light Festival around the harbour and the old City. So keep up the good spirit, and don´t let the winter take over your mind.

MotorQueens from Italy are visiting High Voltage. Its a Motorhead tribute band, so It might be a good evening to find your Jack D shirt and your favourite boots. They are supported by a local Metal band.

Winter jazz is a lot of things. Last time I saw the Orgelheimers was at Gutter Island Garage festival, but now they are embraced by the Jazz community. Its mostly cover versions, but they know how to keep a party going. Its at Kayak Bar, by Knippelsbro so there are also swimming opportunities https://www.facebook.com/events/369440540481996/

The Musicians have been spread out all over world with different projects but have assembled again. Its sold out and the price of 445 Kr. is hefty, but if you are a fan, you find your way.

Saturday 9th

For Stoner Rock Fans John Garcia is the High priest. He started with Kyuss in the 1980´s and has since been in other bands and going solo. So what you can expect at Loppen is a man who has a great experience, not to mention a really good voice. Listen to his new stuff I cant help thinking about Rocky Eriksson from 13th floor Elevators. But there is also some really good Stoner Rock.

Gyedu-Blay Ambolley is a man from Takoradi in Ghana. Since the 1970´s he has been performing with his own kind of music. Very smooth, jazzy, funky, danceable music. Like a good brandy it is smoothing around your body. So I if you need to dance the winter away. This is it . Its in Alicecph

If you are in for Trypical Cumbia at Operaen Christiania, you better come early. The place is small and quickly gets sold out.
Their take on Latin American music is guaranteed to make your legs dance! Trypical Cumbia’s sound is powerful, tight and fast with a juicy leading saxophone and rich percussion. Cash only !!!

The Bowery Room is a monthly club In Råhuset at Onkel dannys plads – Vesterbro. They book Garage and Rock bands. This month it is Room52 (Doom), Glue Kiss (Garage) and Me&Munich (Noise rock). Råhuset has very good beer in the bar at cheap prices.

War of Destruction is a pretty old band from the 1980´s punk scene. Still performing they are at Underwerket, supported by two other good bands: Ond Tro + Direct Youth. So if you miss some hardcore punk, and need to be blasted through and forget about Winter: This is the place. Remember Ear Plugs.

Sunday 10th
“Acid på svenska” is a remix of jan Johanssons legendary Record “Jazz på Svenska”. Its not so Acid like, but just the same tunes in an Electronic Version. The Venue is Brossons Kirken, Rantzausgade, Nørrebro. And BTW: Did you know that The tune of Pippi Long-stockings is written by Jan Johansson?

Brass Against. WTF is that? Well its a 9 piece brass band making covers of new bands. So they have Rage Against Machine – Pantera – Public Enemy and others on the play list. And with a very enthusiastic and political singer it could be a very good Concert. Its in Lille Vega, so its quite expensive on a Sunday.

Monday 11th
If you have nothing to do this Monday, then try to see if you can hustle some tickets to KOKOKO at Alice in Nørrebro. I heard them last year at Roskilde Festival, and its a really good live band. They are from Kinshasa, Congo and play Congotronics on self made instruments. Its sold out, so you have to find a way to get the tickets.

Low is a brilliant name for the US Shoegazer band, performing in DR´s Koncerthuset. Its Minimalistic, introvert and a little bit depressing. Some also call it slowcore. A good time to think about what when wrong with your life, and how you ended here. I saw them in Stengade in the 90´s , and i´m still thinking. There´s a waiting list.

Tuesday 12th
Veronica Torres from Pill (US) has a really remarkebly soft and harsh voice, giving the Post Punk Indie band some etch. Its at Loppen and what else to do on a Tuesday.

Photo: Praed at Alice. Fantastic Concert with very few People.

Out in sydhavnen at Karens Minde, they are opening the jazz festival with Tuhaf, who er some kind of Danish Turkish, with inspiration from Traditional Turkish, Psych, Bazaar and other world music. Its a mixture and the Singer Berrin, is a good friend and has a great voice.

Last time I saw Napoleon Sole is just two month ago, also at Bartof station. Now they are back with the ultra danceable Ska Music. Highly recommendable.
