I´m Beginning to see the light. :-D

Winter depression go away, and come back another day.

We are in the middle of the Winter. Now the day have already gained 1 hour. Yes!!! We now have 8 hours off sunlight!!! And sometimes it´s snowing outside. And Next week the Winter Jazz festival is starting up with a lot of music for almost all of February. So what´s not to like.

Live music

Tuesday
For some easy going indie pop, head for Kakkmaddafukka (Another great Band name). Pumpehuset are presenting the Norwegian band who also played Roskilde 2018, and was a big success. I didn´t see them, despite the great name, but it should have been good.

Thursday
Anna von Hausswollf should be playing in a church!!! Her experimental depressing, dark music more belongs in a church, than in a concert Hall. Her latest Album was recorded in the Marple Church here in Copenhagen. But she´s in Pumpehuset .

Its long time since Lygtens Kro has had any concerts, but now they have visitors from Spain: Las Furias are playing Bubblegum Garage Punk Rock With a little bit of surf 1-2-3-4 GO!!! Supported by OhNos, from Sweden and that’s more Garage Punk.

Friday
Ungdomshuset has a two day party with Punk and Hardcore.
Black Cross is a new political festival in Ungdomshuset Copenhagen with bands from Scandinavia and Europe, DIY-culture and international solidarity.  Profits from the festival of 2019 will be donated to the Brazilian organization for the Landless Workers Movement, MST .

Behemoth is like nothing else. The Polish Black Metal band is now 27 years, and still going strong. Very controversial in Poland, for tearing up a Bible at the stage. In Vega they are supported by Wolves in The Throne Room and At The Gates. You have to join the waiting list, cause its sold out.

More Metal and Hardcore for you at High Voltage in the centre of Copenhagen. Just opposite Tivoli. Three bands are performing: Spitanger, Grusom and Hearteater!! want´s to split your spleen, and pull the hammer out of your Ear. Happy Hour 9- 10 PM

For those of you who are not fans of loud fast music, and more like warm tropical beats: Head for Operaen in Christiania.
José Carlos II & the Bambamoleque Band are Copenhagen-based, playing a fusion of Latin American music such as salsa, samba, lambada, rumba, chachacha etc, blended with funky grooves. There is also a DJ dropping by:
Dj Sergio Bedoya. No Presale. Cash Only

Saturday
Underwerket has some of the local punk bands performing. De Tunge Punge (Punk), Late Night Venture (Metal / Doom) and Spells (????) Gives and etch to Valby.

Raahuset in Vesterbro is a great spot for small concerts and party’s. Now they are celebrating their 9th years birthday. Velvet Volume is three sisters, and are playing Noise Rock. The lovely Beat Mermaids are DJ´s .

Sunday
Chelsea Cutler is still very young, but she can really write a catchy Electro Pop tune, and tell you everything you need to know about heart sorrow, and Feeeeeeelings. Its in Pumpehuset.

Tuesday
In Amager Bio they love Progrock!!! And now they have one the best old bands on a visit. Wishbone Ash are on a 50 years celebration tour, with a lot of guitars. And they even has Drum Solos!!! What’s not to like?

Photo: Algiers At Hotelcecil. Sorry you missed it. It´s a great band – also on stage

Worst day of the year

January drags on like an old movie you have seen before.
Or like the church ceremony for somebody you don´t know.
Or like going shopping with your old aunt, who can´t decide which washing powder to buy. Or like…

And I really want to give you some hope that it will be soon be over. But we are only halfway…
The third Monday of January is Blue Monday and said to be the most depressing day of the year. Its cold, Gray, you are out of money, your feeling your new Years resolution is losing its meaning. And the action in Copenhagen is minimal.
So do something good for yourself. Go to the movies, borrow some money, eat chocolate, get drunk, get high, listen to your favourite music. You don´t live twice.

LIVE MUSIC
Tuesday
When I first heard them I was amazed. This is concert of the week. Algiers are a very, very, very cool band at Hotel Cecil. A bit of soul, but also with a distorted guitar, and a fantastic voice. Reminds me of The legendary Dirtbombs. And they are feeling obliged to fight the tide of fascism and intolerance, that are sweeping over the western world right now. What´s not to like? Deadspan, who are supporting is post punk The Cure like.

Thursday
Boy Pablo is a Norwegian singer song writer pop phenomenon. Its soft, dreamy like, and has captured the heart of millions. Nothing special, just POP. Its in Pumpehuset.

Friday
Underwerket are opening up again, for the first show in 2019. Three Danish Hard Core punks bands: Fixed Fight, King Carrot and Dead to Seattle are performing with The new punk sound from the 1990´s.

Saturday
I can´t understand how they can keep on going: UK Subs are a legendary punk band, one of the oldest in the world, still going strong. The Concert at Underwerket is off course sold out, so you have to be lucky to find some tickets. But nothing is impossible, if you really want to go.

Thurston Moore is a legend!!! After being with Sonic Youth for 30 years, they split up. He is also a professor at the Danish Rythmic Music Academy.
He is playing two surprise ‘warm-up’ shows with his New Noise Music Ensemble: including Deb Googe (My Bloody Valentine) on baritone bass, James Sedwards and Jen Chochinov on 12-string electric guitars, and Jem Doulton on percussion in Mayhem on Østerbro. It´s both Saturday and Sunday.

Stengade are also opening up after the holidays, starting with Prog Metal from Iceland. Ring of Gyros are supported by two Danish bands.

Once again Operaen in Christiania are inviting for a Latin American evening. Caña collective are taking over the stage, so grease your ears and your hips, and get going.

Sunday
Spoil your Monday: The Sunday hardcore concert is off course taking place in Ungdomshuset. And who cares about Monday anyway. M:40 from Sweden are Crustpunkers. Supported by two local bands.

Monday
Ella Mai is all the time breaking new ground, and could be the next big quality R´n´B star. So the concert in Vega, might be the last chance to see her in a small venue. Next time it might be Parken or Orange Stage at Roskilde.

Your Monday Death Metal doss is in Stengade with Draconian from the deep forest of Sweden. With two support bands: Harakiri for the Sky (What a fantastic name) from Austria and Sojourner from Kiwi-land and Sweden.

The slowest week of the year.

I hope you had a nice new years night, and a safe entry into 2019. So now we are in January, and have to keep up the good spirit in the cold and dark month. It can be difficult. I consider January the worst of all months. And we are all low on money because December is so awfully expensive.

And that is why some of the best live music venues are closed. Loppen, Alice, Underwerket and many more don´t open up, until later in the month.
And in this week the live music acts are almost non existing. But I present to you the few good ones.

But then the Movie theatres are open, and both Cinemateket and Huset have some good series of films. Like Terry Gilliam movies (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Brazil)

Thursday
The Thursday cafe at Operaen, in Christiania are free entry, and The Freetown Social Club are having there monthly club. It can be hygge, and a good jamming session at the stage. No cards! Cash only.

Friday
Pumpehuset opens the new year with a blast of a techno party. Peckerhead and Skygg, are the two main DJ´s . Why stay idle when you can dance. And its pretty cheap at 70 kr at the entry.

Saturday
The only arrangement worth mentioning is at one of the smallest venues in Copenhagen. Christiania Jazzclub, has Hollow, who describes themselves as music from the bottom of a well. Very fitting for January. Remember cash money

Sunday
The open mike at Raahuset, is the place to go for this lonely evening. Drop by, and sing a song, Raahuset have the instruments.

Tuesday
The first really good concert of the year: Architects have grown and grown, and the 2018 album is celebrated as one of the best albums of 2018. So here they are at Vega, performing high energy metal with two support bands. Prepare yourself for moshing and a circle pit.

Happy new year from copenhagen. Photo is my own

Welcome to 2019

Are you ready for 2019? We say goodbye to 2018 and hello to another year. Not because you will feel any different. After all its just a social construction. But we can just as well enjoy the party, and the fireworks, now that its here. So lets celebrate !!! 😀 😀 😀

Friday
Last show of the year in Ungeren. And not surprisingly its a punk show. Melting Walkmen are Synth Punk and Chainsaw eaters are post punk. What ever the difference is? But Chainsaw Eaters are one of the most disturbing band names. The Images I get in my head. Remember Cash.

Saturday
Warming up to new year, you can head for Bolsjefabrikken i Outer Østerbro. Its Tung Torsdag, with a lot of old school reggae and sound systems. Dubfabrikken are also turning up, for giving you that wheat smoking ganja loving reggae music.

Sunday
Pretty maids are a pretty good hard rock act. And they are having both saturday and sunday at Amager Bio. And since the first concert is sold out, this is the extra koncert. They are supporterd by two cool bands, so there is a brilliant night in it for you here.

In Koncertkirken, Blågårds Plads, Nørrebro, The New Jungle orch. Are performing with the fantastic jazz, with notes of old folk, and a bit of world music to.

Monday – New years evening.
Its the biggest party of the year for many people. And you can party all over town. Just read on, and find a party that suits your taste:

It started as an illegal underground event, with a riot, put then the city
and the police gave in, and now its an official party. Put on warm clothing, and join the New Years party at Dronning Louises Bridge. With DJ´s and bands playing. Starts at 11 pm and is only for 3 hours.

If you are into soul, and don´t mind big blasts from homemade and illegal fireworks, then head to Operaen in Christiania, where they have DJ´s playing all night. The blast are from the steroid filled drug dealers in the street, who are having there yearly firework and bomb competion.

If you are more like the Cuban rhum drinking type, then go for the Cuban salsa party at Kedelhallen Frederiksberg. I bet they have cigars as well.

For those of you who are more into Rock´n Roll, the place to go is The Basement, next to Vega, Enghavevej, Vesterbro. One of my favorite bands, Baby in Vain are playing, with De høje Hæle. Off course the DJ´s come later, but this is in fact a real concert this evening.
Also at High Voltage they have a rock party, with a band playing. Junkyard Drive are performing and are taking you into 2019.

For the Techno fans, you can head for Islands Brygge, and CPH Deeps rave, with a lot of DJ´s . It goes on until 8 AM.
Another more conventional Techno party (and cheaper), is at Culture Box, who have also invited a lot of DJ´s and keeps on going to the late sun rises. I dont know which of the is the best, so you have to check out the Djs .

Tuesday
Everything is quiet. Its one of the busyist days for the fastfood shops. Happy Hangover. 😉

BO IS BACK

Sorry, for not posting anything the last two weeks. But I was down with a serious batch of man-flu. Now Im back at the blog, sitting at the screen, with my fingers dancing at the keyboard. Meanwhile we have gone into december, the christmas month, with all the partys, christmas beer, gifts, Christmas markets, and ending it all with the biggest one night party of the year: New year.

Tuesday
The Nightmare before christmas,   The Tim Buton movie, is perfect for sing-a-long, so head for Cinemateket, where they are showing the movie. And you dont have to sit quietly in your seat. Jump up, and sing a long with the rest of the audience. Only for nerds. 😉

Wendesday
Viagra Boys  from Sweden are one of the best band names I know of. I saw them from the moshpit this summer at Roskilde Festival, and now they are back, playing at Lille Vega . Its post punk and rock´n roll right in your chest.

Thursday
Do you remember Rodriques who just came out of nowhere, with an album from the end of the 1960´s and just blew everybody away? Its the same story with the UK Singersongwriter Washti Bunyan  who is playing in a concert arranged by Alicecph, but taking place Nørrebro Teater in Ravnsborggade.

Cockpit Music is a legenday Copenhagen band dating back to the 1980´s. Jazz, Post Punk, World and Avantgarde finds its way out of the Guitar, drums and sax of the three guys. They are performing one of their rare concerts at Jazzcup in Gothersgade. Its early, starts at 4 PM.

Friday

The church room gets illuminated, and you can sit there and meditate over the Chill out ambient sounds. Its world Class and of course its free.

Saturday
More brazillian at Alicecph when DJ Mam, from Rio are dropping by. For many years one of the best DJ´sin Rio, he has now joined with local Copenhagener Pharfar one a new album. So this is a release album Concert.

Nikoline is the new superpower Feminist rapper on the danish scene. With ”Sut min klit” she is brilliant in getting her message out. I bet she will be doing the summer festivals around the country, so go to Loppen and see her before everybody else.

One of this weeks best ROCK concerts are Deville at Stengade – Nørrebro They play loud and with good guitars. Bringing two supprt bands with them.

In Ungeren Nordvest There is a punk rock party, with Ond Tro (DK) & Svart Magi (Sweden). They are both some of the very good new wave in Scandinavia, and playing at one of there favorite venues, this is turning out to be a very good concert. And then theres a lot of DJ´s. Cash only.

Turquise Sun are from Aarhus and are playing surf / psych, and they also have vocal hamonies. In Underwerket  you can also hear Fyr, who is Oscar from Orcas, with a guitar, and Bünni is warming up with some Lo-fi experimental.

Jul på Vesterbro is a legendary Christmas TV comedy by Anders Mathesen. The closes you are coming to the real thing is Märkbars Christmas paper cuts. There will be bands playing and you can drink the DødsGløgg  (Death gløgg) . You will be talking slurred and feeling it is not possible to walk straight. But funny as hell. 😀

Sunday
No real good live music, but then go to AFUK on Enghavevej and see the Freak XMAS show, with a lot of international performers. Very talented body artists, so it will be a great show, for you.

Monday
Two reasons for going out, on this monday.  Go to Vega, and listen to 1990´s Brit rock Ash (from Northern Island) who are still going strong.  They are supported by Indoor pets also from the UK

Supersuckers with Eddie Spaghetti in front are one of the best Garage rock bands, you can find on the the planet right now. They are playing at Hotel Cecil.
And suddenly your monday is not so boring after all.

There are to kinds of people: Those who sell, and makes money, and those who buys and uses money. So you can find Christmas Markets all over town, that will gladly take your money and covert it to some crap. Some of the best crap is to be found at Christiania Julemarked. It opens up saturday december 8th, and goes on for the next two weeks. Choose a normal weekday in the afternoon, and NOT  in the weekend.

If Blues came from Denmark it would be called “The Grey”…

In Denmark its more like you are feeling Grey. After the weather and the lack of sunshine. Its when your lover has left you, the cat pissed in your bed, its raining and your bike has a puncture.  So thats whats its like to have a “Grey feeling”.

So here are the best things to do in Copenhagen this grey week in November.

Tuesday
In Loppen they have visitors from the other side of the Globe. Orchestra of Spheres (NZ) are here and are on the stage with aprupte rhythms and a bit experimental. I am thinking of Brian Eno. Supported by Local Red Lama playing Psych Kraut Rock.

Wendesday
I saw them at this years Roskilde Festival (I think ;-)) Pumpehuset are welcoming Skeleton Witch from Ohio, US with there Trash – black – dead metal. Supported by Mantar from somewhere in Germany.

In Amagerbio you can meet Dan Baird and the Homemade Sin Former Georgia Satellites guitar hero, so its south state rock, n´roll. By mistake I posted this in last weeks letter, but shit happens. So here we go again. 😉

Christiania Jazzclub Has the very prominent official adress: 1 Pusher Street.   LSD: Lindborg/Sjöstedt/Daniel are doing some jazz on this boring wendesday. So smoke some dope and forget about thursday.  Cash Only

Thursday
The only thing I can find on this thursday is at Loppen. They are having visitors from Canadian West Coast with Crack Cloud, who are a collective performing Vancouver experimental avantgarde post punk. Support is himmelrum with more minimalistic experimental sounds.

Friday
The Lake is a online radio Station, and they describe themselves as a place for music and sounds. There is a support party at Alicecph in Nørrebro.

Just around a couple of corners in Nørrbro you can find Stengade, with Swedish Agent Side Grinder performing. Its Electronic industrial and the legacy goes back to Kraftwerk. Afterparty with Dj´s .

In Ungeren, Nordvest. Its two Black Metal bands from the US with very gifted musicians: Yellow Eyes and Anicon playing very melodic going into Stoner. Remember ear Plugs!!! Cash Only!!!

In Vega, Vesterbro. Lydmor, just came back with a new album after spending some time in China. Electronic well sounding pop. You can sign up at the Waiting List

Aysha Loren from UK are welcomed at Operaen Christiania. Its Reggae and R´n´B. She singes beautifully with her dancing music. It makes you feel good. Come in good time as it can be sold out fast, and there are only tickets at the door. Cash Only.

We only have a few Ska bands in Copenhagen. At Cafe Bartof, Frederiksberg you can experince the very first: Napoleon Solo are still very ambitious and this is a release concert. So find your suit, your sunglasses and your hat.

Saturday
No wedding without dancing!!!
If you want a trip into modern turkish psych wedding and party music, then head for Alicecph, where you will find Cüneyt Sepetci playing on his horn.

A indoor Distortion party with only Afrobeat, is what you need in November. Live acts and DJ´s is in Pumpehuset, so a lot of dancing and sweaty people.

Theres more West African music in Operaen, Christiania. Mofro Danish / Ghanian Afro Beat and Highlife It will get you warm and dry in the cold and rainy winter.

In Vega, Vesterbro Danish Oh Land is on the poster with poppy tunes, celebrating her debut ten years ago. And she is getting better and better with the time.

The Blues is in the Grey Hall, Christiania when good old Walter Trout with Chicago blues rock. Arranged by Amagerbio, but they are rebuilding the concert hall so its in the Grey Hall.

Underwerket in Valby has 20 below with chewing cum punk rock with a clear guitar Supported by 3 local bands doing skater punk.

Sunday
What to do on a rainy Sunday? Well you can go for some of the locals at Cph listening Room on Halmtorvet, Vesterbro Its a Weekly singer song Writer venue. Everything is run by volunteers, and it should be real hygge. So drop inn by on a sunday. 🙂
Another place for jamming on a Sunday is Operaen Christiania, where there is also a open stage.

Tremonti from Greed is here with his solo project. Its guitar and the voice sounds a bit like local metal band Volbeat. Tremonti has a new Concept album about the Robots taking over. Its in Vega.

What else to do besides listening to music?
Cocktails and Science in Byens Lys Christiania are presenting another Neerdy theme: this time its about new materials. What does the future look like, and what can it offer? What can we do with all this new material stuff – and do we really need it? Its free, but the bar acceptes Cash Only!!! Thursday November 15th,

You can join the party with the local Roller Derby Stars. Its a double header meaning two games on  Saturday afternoon in DGI Byen against Teams from Bryssels, Belgium and Sweden. It will be super exciting to cheer on the girls.

November, November, November November…

The Year has 16 months:
November, December, January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, November, November, November.
For danes it is one of the most remembered poems, by Danish poet Henrik Nordbrandt. In fact I think january is worse – but its still a good poem. ;-D

Friday November 9th its 80 years since the Crystal night 1938 in Nazi Germany, where the Nazis smashed jewish shops and it was another step towards the Holocaust. And now its more important than ever, that you show yourself as an anti-racist and meet up. Never agin a Crystal Night is at Gammeltorv and starts at 5 PM.

Sunday november 10th  you can renew your music collection at the record faire in Nørrebro Hallen, find the best records. Traders are coming from Germany, Sweden Holland, and the locals off course. Runs from 10 AM – 3 PM

Live Music

Sorte Firkant Musicfestival
This week Stengade in Nørrebro has there own music festival in, with a program of four days – Thursday to Sunday – and a lot of excellent music. Check it out.
The big thing is Lee Ranaldo – former Sonic Youth – playing on sunday. Check the program, it is really impressive, and its a good deal to buy the 425 kr full ticket.

Tuesday
Tuesday there is a pretty good concert at Hotel Cecil in the center of town. Dream Vife from the UK, is a three girl band, and as I can hear it, the inspiration comes from Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and the indie sound of the 00´s. Support is local Velvet Volume .

Wendesday
Jpegmafia Is a new act from NYC, and its a sort of Industrial Rapping, if it exist? Very political, sometimes rough, sometimes poetic. But always interesting, always on the alert. Its at Loppen, Christiania.

In Amagerbio you can meet Dan Baird and the Homemade Sin Former Georgia Satellites guitar hero, so its south state rock, n´roll. First concert is sold out, but lucky you! Theres a new concert the day before. 😀

Thursday
Dirtmusic sounds like its a mix up of everything. If you can imagine a mix of Australian postpunk, desertblues from Western Sahara and Turkish psych, then you are getting near. Its at Alicecph and it will be GOOD.

Tim Andresen is the co-owner of Culture Box, the number one venue for electronic music. And he is also a really cool DJ, so find your dance shoes and get moving, to one of the best Danish Acts right now.

Friday
Hank von Hell is former lead singer of legenday norwegian Turbonegro. He is an excelent performer with a great show, all dressed in white. Its at Pumpehuset, and surprisingly not sold out. Stadionrock with sing a long and too many people taking pictures during concert.

Sometimes I wonder what a big name is doing on a small stage in a small venue. That is the case with Talib Kweli. He is Political, cool, simple, and a much respected veteran in the hip hop business. Its in little Vega

But then in Big Vega you can find Av Av Av. Who are now moving into a bigger scene. Its electronic local DJ´s and they are throwing a big party. Lots of dancing in da club.

Saturday
At Alicecph, Nørrebro they are ending the G((o))ng Tomorrow experimental festival with a three piece concert Astrid Sonne (DK) Ying- Hsueh Chen (Taiwan), and Cucina Povera (Fin) are performing with all sorts of instruments and visuals. Interesting…

Then Pumpehuset has something completly different when swedish rockers Graveyard are visiting. Its sold out, but try your luck with people who want to sell tickets at the original price.

Operaen in Christiania are again welcoming Brazilian La Banda: Its a big band and dance show with samba and alls sorts of related styles.
And they dress up like its a carnival, so you will have swinging skirts all over the place. DJ Quasiliero keeps the dancefloor Hot with Salsa, funk, Samba, Reggae, Hip Hop…

Sunday
The dark sunday is back. And it is taking place at Pumpehuset. Where Kataklysm are performing.  Its Heavy metal with a voice, fast and efficient. And they take no enemys. Supported by Hypocrisy swedish guitar rock: fast and nervy.

Dia de los Muertos and Hollow-een

So now it is time for celebrating the dead, and the ancestors. Halloween and Dias de los Muertos. Personaly I perefere Dias de los Muertos. I Think the Craniums and Sceletons are much cooler than the not so scary pumpkins. Except in ”the Nightmare before Christmas”. Thats cool Pumpkins, but its not Christmas yet.

In fact Christmas starts now, because Friday November 2nd is J-Day when Tuborg are relasing this years Chritsmas beer ”Julebryg”. Its not a very good beer, but there are trucks driving around to the bars, specially in the old city, and you can get it for free. And when you get it for tree, it suddenly tastes better. 😉
But watch out for drunken people with these foolish blue hats on.

Then there is a lot more quality in life, if you go to Cisterne, and sing with the choirer there. Cisterne is one of the best museums in Copenhagen, in the underground water recervoir. Fantastic sound there, in the dark and humid void. Check it out here

Live Music
Friday November 2nd seems to be the big day for live concerts in this week. The rest of the days are pretty lame.

Tuesday
At Loppen, Christiania, there is female and R´n´B Right in your face, with Sa-Roc and Dynasty. Two Very different sounding Afro American Feminist rappers. And not to expensive for these stars of tomorrow. Very much like Lauren Hill and Erika Badu.

Wendesday
This wendesday there are two events worth mentioning, and non of them are Halloween related.
In Alicecph there is faboluous Brazilian Bixiga 70, with references to Nigerias 1970´s Afro Beat scene. I saw them a couple of years ago at Alice, and it was really great. I hope they are OK after the Brazilian fucked up election.

For sitting down and just listening, there is a ”once in a life time” event in Koncerthuset at DR Byen. They are showing “The passion of Joan of Arc” movie from 1928 by Danish director Carl Th. Dreyer, and there is a band performing live to this Epic movie. The scor is composed and performed by members from Portishead and Goldfrapp.

Thursday
Only one gig worth to mention: At Lygtens Kro Dead Lord from Sweden are playing some really good rock´n roll. They play for free, so buy some merch in support.

Friday
Well where to start and where to end. The list is long:
Alicecph are having Turkish new psych in Gaye Su Akoal. Beautifull voice and cool musicians.

Tamikrest are from Mali – West Africa, who are playing this music, named Desert Blues. Really an exeptionally fine concert. I´ve seen them at Roskilde Festival, but this will be even better. Its at Loppen, Christiania

This weeks best heavy is Watain from Sweden in Pumpehuset, performing Black Metal loud and heavy.

One of my favorite US Ska bands: The Slackers giving a concert at the small stage at Amagerbio called Beta.

For the Dia de los Muertos Mexican celebrations, there is Hola Ghost playing at Metronomen in Frederiksberg. Which is not really a concert place.

The Mexican Emabassy are good at trowing up partys. At Nørrebro there are all sorts of stuff related to Dia De los Muertos, with theater, exibitions, readings, food and some music as well. Check the full program at the Facebook page. Its also at Assistentens Kirkegård.

For the Danes MC Einer are legends as the first Hip Hop band rapping in danish. 25 years jubilee celebration at Vega.

Saturday
After this fabolous Friday, Saturday is a bit more quiet.
Two gigs at Christiania: Kira Skov is performing with her band at Loppen. Sort of jazzy Indie, and her very hoarse voice full of sorrow.

There is more of a dance in Operaen with Balkan vs Swing. Horns are playing and the party is on.

Monday
If you are not completly dead after this weekend of the dead, 😉 you can move to Pumpehuset, where Alicecph are the arrangers of The Punch Brothers. Its a five string band, and sort of Irish Blue Grass. Very talented musicians.

Sauna and Hygge time. Blues Festival, LGBTQ Movie Festival, and more…

It seems like autumn is finally arriving with colder nights, the leaves are falling of the trees, and we can dig the indoor Hygge atmophere with a piano man and candle lights.

And it is still possible to take a dip in the cold water in the harbour. You can rent a Sauna, and sit there and get really hot and sweatty, go outside, and jump in cold water, and up again and back to the sauna. Here are som suggestions, and then you can check out the one that fits you best. :
https://copenhot.com/services/
http://butchersheat.dk
http://www.inipi.dk
Also the Art Hall at Charlottenborg have a sauna installation in the court yard. And it is really beautifull with the Golden egg, but I dont see any cold bath near by, so mayby you just have to stay sweatty.

Its also time to go to the movies, and here you can for example go to Husets biograf in Rådhusstræde. They have all sort of weird – Bad Taste – B Films – Cult Movies – that you have never heard off. Check out there program here.
In the Cinemateque at Gothersgade there is a LGBTQ film Festival going on in the next week, starting friday October 26 and continuing the next 10 days.

And Lonely Planet Books have anoounced that Copenhagen is the best city to visit in 2019!!! That is both good and bad. It means that I will have more to do as a tourist guide, but also that prices will be rising, and for the locals, it can be difficult to find places to go, where there are no tourist. I am surprised how mainstream they are. There are a lot of other stuff than Nyhavn and Tivoli.

Live Music

Blues festival
Autumn is the right time for a Blues Festival, where you can sit and get a bit glommy, and feel sorry for yourself. Most bands are local, but there are also US and European bands playing. Its from wendesday to sunday and Mojo is one of the places to go.

Wendesday
Kakkmaddafakka is a fantastic band name, and I heard them at this years Roskilde Festival. They are from Norway and play a sort of indie dance-friendly simpel pop music.
Pumpehuset are hosting Kakkmaddafakka.

Thursday
Going for some fast guitar / Punk rock on a Thursday? Head for Stengade and The Coathangers which is an all girl band from Atlanta, US. I will most propaply be there for some thursday action.

If you are more into electronic trance, Go to the Grey Hall at Christiania (Den Grå Hal) where you can find “Above and Beyond” from UK. The Hall is quite small for a band of this size, so I dont know if they are bringing there whole visuals. It will be a cool event.

Weird Friday

We stay with Stengade in Nørrebro for another cool concert. Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O. !!! :-0 are from Japan, and for this concert you are really in for some weird improvised stuff. But mayby it will open up your mind to another level. Who knows?

Another weird place is Woodstock and Ben Gillespie. I dont really know what it is, but concerts at Woodstock, Pusher Street, Christiania are always worth going for. So you get a chance to take in the scene with the local hangouts.

And for some more weird and also electronic is Robin Fox from down under performing at Alicecph in Nørrebro. Its very electronic. Prepare yourself for being blasted out.

Saturday
I am not a big fan of Halloween. Thinks it a big phony, and I dont get the concept. Mayby for kids, put in this respect I am not a kid. But at Ungeren in Nordvest they have a Halloween Party with a Misfits cover band and cheap scary cocktails.

One of my favorite Vesterbro bars is Mærkbar at Vesterbrogade. Its a small room, so when a band is performing its very packed. Saturday ”Vi er fædre” are giving a concert and its a good idea to remember your earplugs. Loud and fast.

Sunday
Did you get tickets for The Vaccines? The British band is performing in a place like Lille Vega and in a small place like this it can be a fantastic concert. Playing all there hits, it is great 10.000 people festival band. But here they are. I am looking out for a ticket. 🙂

Last concert of the week is at Islands Brygge Culture House, with some big band performing all the classics from the 1950´s With a great crooner in front, and a lot of horns. Hay Burner is the name.

Autumn Holidays in the late summer

This week it is autumn holiday for all schools, so that means that there is no bedtime curfew, and the kids can party all night. (Like my daughter 😉 ) .

And since we have the hottest mid October ever recorded, there are even space for outdoor events. “Normally” it would be 5 degress celcius and raining right now. So you better feel lucky. 😀
A good place to hang out in good weather is always at Dronning Louises Bridge in the afternoon, on the way to Nørrebro. Often a party pops up out of nowhere. Dont look for the party – let the party find you. Also Christiania is a good place to pick up a late summer party.
While writing this I am at Bornholm visiting friends, and enjoying the good weather.
Live Music
I can see two really good places to go for tuesday. At Hotel Cecil, near Strøget, You can go for Hot Snakes and Deaf Wish, with the no nonsense raw rock´n roll, Full of energy and a lot of power.

Also on tuesday head for Loppen , Christiania, and Godfathers that have reemerged from the 80´s . I remember them playing a bid poppy guitar new wave.
And now they are here again, if you need a little going back to the good times 😉

Thursday

Bambara sounds like an African band name, but they are the opposite, and are performing some of the darkest rock you can imagine with inspiration from Nick Cave and Birthday Party and Swans. Post punk guitar noise, there must also be some Sonic Youth inspiration. It is Thursday October 18 on Loppen.

Friday
One of the best bands right now in Copenhagen is Baby in Wain with there very modern drums and two guitars Rock. Just coming home from a europeen tour they are performing there new album at Hotel Cecil. Best concert of the week in my humble opinon.

And then you can continue to the Kayak Bar, where they are having new good beer at the bar and DJ´ing is ”kvinder der kender din krop” (Women that knows your body). Sounds like a good evening.

Saturday
For some latin Salsa dancing, the best place to go is AliceCPH where Frente Cumbiero from Colombia are visitors, and are sure to make your hips and feet move in a sexual dance.

And now for something completely different as they say in Monty Python. In Ungdomshuset there an allday support party for good old paper zines, I cant see that there are bands playing but you will meet a lot of new friends. But go on to Bumzen In Baldersgade where they are having yet another party. This time its with a Halloween theme, so bring your orange clothing and a pumpkin. And try to look scary.

Danish Championships in Free Style Rap is taking place in Pumpehuset. Of course you need some knowledge of the danish language to get something out of it, but there are a lot of beats and blows. Its on saturday and with DJ KCL after the event.
