Dia de los Muertos and Hollow-een

So now it is time for celebrating the dead, and the ancestors. Halloween and Dias de los Muertos. Personaly I perefere Dias de los Muertos. I Think the Craniums and Sceletons are much cooler than the not so scary pumpkins. Except in ”the Nightmare before Christmas”. Thats cool Pumpkins, but its not Christmas yet.

In fact Christmas starts now, because Friday November 2nd is J-Day when Tuborg are relasing this years Chritsmas beer ”Julebryg”. Its not a very good beer, but there are trucks driving around to the bars, specially in the old city, and you can get it for free. And when you get it for tree, it suddenly tastes better. 😉
But watch out for drunken people with these foolish blue hats on.

Then there is a lot more quality in life, if you go to Cisterne, and sing with the choirer there. Cisterne is one of the best museums in Copenhagen, in the underground water recervoir. Fantastic sound there, in the dark and humid void. Check it out here

Live Music
Friday November 2nd seems to be the big day for live concerts in this week. The rest of the days are pretty lame.

Tuesday
At Loppen, Christiania, there is female and R´n´B Right in your face, with Sa-Roc and Dynasty. Two Very different sounding Afro American Feminist rappers. And not to expensive for these stars of tomorrow. Very much like Lauren Hill and Erika Badu.

Wendesday
This wendesday there are two events worth mentioning, and non of them are Halloween related.
In Alicecph there is faboluous Brazilian Bixiga 70, with references to Nigerias 1970´s Afro Beat scene. I saw them a couple of years ago at Alice, and it was really great. I hope they are OK after the Brazilian fucked up election.

For sitting down and just listening, there is a ”once in a life time” event in Koncerthuset at DR Byen. They are showing “The passion of Joan of Arc” movie from 1928 by Danish director Carl Th. Dreyer, and there is a band performing live to this Epic movie. The scor is composed and performed by members from Portishead and Goldfrapp.

Thursday
Only one gig worth to mention: At Lygtens Kro Dead Lord from Sweden are playing some really good rock´n roll. They play for free, so buy some merch in support.

Friday
Well where to start and where to end. The list is long:
Alicecph are having Turkish new psych in Gaye Su Akoal. Beautifull voice and cool musicians.

Tamikrest are from Mali – West Africa, who are playing this music, named Desert Blues. Really an exeptionally fine concert. I´ve seen them at Roskilde Festival, but this will be even better. Its at Loppen, Christiania

This weeks best heavy is Watain from Sweden in Pumpehuset, performing Black Metal loud and heavy.

One of my favorite US Ska bands: The Slackers giving a concert at the small stage at Amagerbio called Beta.

For the Dia de los Muertos Mexican celebrations, there is Hola Ghost playing at Metronomen in Frederiksberg. Which is not really a concert place.

The Mexican Emabassy are good at trowing up partys. At Nørrebro there are all sorts of stuff related to Dia De los Muertos, with theater, exibitions, readings, food and some music as well. Check the full program at the Facebook page. Its also at Assistentens Kirkegård.

For the Danes MC Einer are legends as the first Hip Hop band rapping in danish. 25 years jubilee celebration at Vega.

Saturday
After this fabolous Friday, Saturday is a bit more quiet.
Two gigs at Christiania: Kira Skov is performing with her band at Loppen. Sort of jazzy Indie, and her very hoarse voice full of sorrow.

There is more of a dance in Operaen with Balkan vs Swing. Horns are playing and the party is on.

Monday
If you are not completly dead after this weekend of the dead, 😉 you can move to Pumpehuset, where Alicecph are the arrangers of The Punch Brothers. Its a five string band, and sort of Irish Blue Grass. Very talented musicians.

Sauna and Hygge time. Blues Festival, LGBTQ Movie Festival, and more…

It seems like autumn is finally arriving with colder nights, the leaves are falling of the trees, and we can dig the indoor Hygge atmophere with a piano man and candle lights.

And it is still possible to take a dip in the cold water in the harbour. You can rent a Sauna, and sit there and get really hot and sweatty, go outside, and jump in cold water, and up again and back to the sauna. Here are som suggestions, and then you can check out the one that fits you best. :
https://copenhot.com/services/
http://butchersheat.dk
http://www.inipi.dk
Also the Art Hall at Charlottenborg have a sauna installation in the court yard. And it is really beautifull with the Golden egg, but I dont see any cold bath near by, so mayby you just have to stay sweatty.

Its also time to go to the movies, and here you can for example go to Husets biograf in Rådhusstræde. They have all sort of weird – Bad Taste – B Films – Cult Movies – that you have never heard off. Check out there program here.
In the Cinemateque at Gothersgade there is a LGBTQ film Festival going on in the next week, starting friday October 26 and continuing the next 10 days.

And Lonely Planet Books have anoounced that Copenhagen is the best city to visit in 2019!!! That is both good and bad. It means that I will have more to do as a tourist guide, but also that prices will be rising, and for the locals, it can be difficult to find places to go, where there are no tourist. I am surprised how mainstream they are. There are a lot of other stuff than Nyhavn and Tivoli.

Live Music

Blues festival
Autumn is the right time for a Blues Festival, where you can sit and get a bit glommy, and feel sorry for yourself. Most bands are local, but there are also US and European bands playing. Its from wendesday to sunday and Mojo is one of the places to go.

Wendesday
Kakkmaddafakka is a fantastic band name, and I heard them at this years Roskilde Festival. They are from Norway and play a sort of indie dance-friendly simpel pop music.
Pumpehuset are hosting Kakkmaddafakka.

Thursday
Going for some fast guitar / Punk rock on a Thursday? Head for Stengade and The Coathangers which is an all girl band from Atlanta, US. I will most propaply be there for some thursday action.

If you are more into electronic trance, Go to the Grey Hall at Christiania (Den Grå Hal) where you can find “Above and Beyond” from UK. The Hall is quite small for a band of this size, so I dont know if they are bringing there whole visuals. It will be a cool event.

Weird Friday

We stay with Stengade in Nørrebro for another cool concert. Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O. !!! :-0 are from Japan, and for this concert you are really in for some weird improvised stuff. But mayby it will open up your mind to another level. Who knows?

Another weird place is Woodstock and Ben Gillespie. I dont really know what it is, but concerts at Woodstock, Pusher Street, Christiania are always worth going for. So you get a chance to take in the scene with the local hangouts.

And for some more weird and also electronic is Robin Fox from down under performing at Alicecph in Nørrebro. Its very electronic. Prepare yourself for being blasted out.

Saturday
I am not a big fan of Halloween. Thinks it a big phony, and I dont get the concept. Mayby for kids, put in this respect I am not a kid. But at Ungeren in Nordvest they have a Halloween Party with a Misfits cover band and cheap scary cocktails.

One of my favorite Vesterbro bars is Mærkbar at Vesterbrogade. Its a small room, so when a band is performing its very packed. Saturday ”Vi er fædre” are giving a concert and its a good idea to remember your earplugs. Loud and fast.

Sunday
Did you get tickets for The Vaccines? The British band is performing in a place like Lille Vega and in a small place like this it can be a fantastic concert. Playing all there hits, it is great 10.000 people festival band. But here they are. I am looking out for a ticket. 🙂

Last concert of the week is at Islands Brygge Culture House, with some big band performing all the classics from the 1950´s With a great crooner in front, and a lot of horns. Hay Burner is the name.

Autumn Holidays in the late summer

This week it is autumn holiday for all schools, so that means that there is no bedtime curfew, and the kids can party all night. (Like my daughter 😉 ) .

And since we have the hottest mid October ever recorded, there are even space for outdoor events. “Normally” it would be 5 degress celcius and raining right now. So you better feel lucky. 😀
A good place to hang out in good weather is always at Dronning Louises Bridge in the afternoon, on the way to Nørrebro. Often a party pops up out of nowhere. Dont look for the party – let the party find you. Also Christiania is a good place to pick up a late summer party.
While writing this I am at Bornholm visiting friends, and enjoying the good weather.
Live Music
I can see two really good places to go for tuesday. At Hotel Cecil, near Strøget, You can go for Hot Snakes and Deaf Wish, with the no nonsense raw rock´n roll, Full of energy and a lot of power.

Also on tuesday head for Loppen , Christiania, and Godfathers that have reemerged from the 80´s . I remember them playing a bid poppy guitar new wave.
And now they are here again, if you need a little going back to the good times 😉

Thursday

Bambara sounds like an African band name, but they are the opposite, and are performing some of the darkest rock you can imagine with inspiration from Nick Cave and Birthday Party and Swans. Post punk guitar noise, there must also be some Sonic Youth inspiration. It is Thursday October 18 on Loppen.

Friday
One of the best bands right now in Copenhagen is Baby in Wain with there very modern drums and two guitars Rock. Just coming home from a europeen tour they are performing there new album at Hotel Cecil. Best concert of the week in my humble opinon.

And then you can continue to the Kayak Bar, where they are having new good beer at the bar and DJ´ing is ”kvinder der kender din krop” (Women that knows your body). Sounds like a good evening.

Saturday
For some latin Salsa dancing, the best place to go is AliceCPH where Frente Cumbiero from Colombia are visitors, and are sure to make your hips and feet move in a sexual dance.

And now for something completely different as they say in Monty Python. In Ungdomshuset there an allday support party for good old paper zines, I cant see that there are bands playing but you will meet a lot of new friends. But go on to Bumzen In Baldersgade where they are having yet another party. This time its with a Halloween theme, so bring your orange clothing and a pumpkin. And try to look scary.

Danish Championships in Free Style Rap is taking place in Pumpehuset. Of course you need some knowledge of the danish language to get something out of it, but there are a lot of beats and blows. Its on saturday and with DJ KCL after the event.

Tremendous Tuesday, Friday culture night and dancing on a Saturday

Culture is where ever we look, what we hear, feel, taste and smell. And on friday it is  Kulturnat – Culture Night – in Copenhagen, for the 25th time. A lot of  institutions are openning there doors, and there are all sort of events, live music, lectures and much more. It is museums Academies, Schools, Universities, galleries, und so weiter. In the old city you will see that there are loads of people walking around. But it is also in the neighboorhoods, The pass gives you access to everything, cost 95 Kr. and can be bougtht at Libraries and other official institutions, and at 7-11 kiosks.

You will get a lot wiser if you go to Science and Cocktails on tuesday. This time its about the mysterium of plants, and what makes them grow and prosper. Really neerdie, but it is also with cocktails. Free entry, and bring cash for the drinks. Byens Lys Cinema in Christiania.

Live Music.
I cant recall a tuesday evening being so packed with good live Music as Octobder 9th.
In the Grey Hall, Christiania, Beach House are performing with there light singer – song writer, indie music. It is sold out, but if you are lucky you can find tickets outside. Dont pay more than is says on the ticket. The Grey Hall is the perfect place for a concert like this, where the atmophere get really intense. I Love that place. 😉

And if that is not enough for you on a tuesday continue to Loppen, where there is Hip Hop playing for you. LE1F is dropping by for some of that very fast mouth. With a lot of fantasie and an open gay attitude, he is very special in the Hip Hop Community.

I saw Slaves performing at this years Roskilde Festival, and now they are back, playing punk rock with only drums and a Guitar. Its high energy and full power on there performance in Lille Vega Vesterbro. Also Tuesday.

If you are into some more heavy stoner and psych then head to KB 18  and Acid Kings. Only go if you dont mind a hard sound, and a lot of Craffiti.

Dont come and say that nothing happens on a tuesday in Copenhagen. 😀

Wendesday
2nd Blood are normally on the biggest festival stages in the summer, but here they are at Loppen for an exclusive concert. And it is not even sold out for this electronic dj duo, that are used to crowds of 10000 dancing youngsters. The have visits from Trentemøller and a member from Den sorte Skole. I dont understand why this isnt long sold out.

If Kulturnatten on friday is too much, Go to outer Nørrebro: Even in the middle of October there are some people who are still making a good old street Party. It is the Former squad house Bumzen who are hosting with DJ´s and cheap drinks in the bar. Hope it can make us warm in the cold cold night.

Not so fra away from Bumzen there are a Black metal koncert with Solbrud, and it is taking place in the Tagensbro Church. They have played in a church in Aarhus two years ago which was controversial. Solbrud is part of the new wave of danish metal, that are ruling the waves these years.

Go a little further towards Nordvest and you find Ungdomshuset, where Motorsav is playing with two bands that I dont know. Finnish and Swedish. As usually its cash only, cheap and warm beeers. .

On saturday there is another Psych / Stoner rock band at KB 18. Seems like its the thing right now when Magic Shoppe is playing.

And there is more Hardcore for your worn out ears at Pumpehuset and Købernhardcore, with british Peckerhead as the main name, followed by a hole line up of new local names.

Saturday allright for dancing

This saturday there are an abundance of good dance Partys.

Dance like nobody is watching is at the Absalon Church in Vesterbro, with host dj´s making your hips move. You can dress up in your best dance dress, or just show up in the good old blue jeans.

Rarely you hear Old School 1970´s disco but you can go to Operaen, Pusherstreet, Christiania, and dance to Royal Feet Factory. They sure have listened to 1970´s Saturday Night Fever and Gloria Gayner. Bring Cash!!!

Katrine Ring and Martin Tjek are hosting another Dance event Funkdown  in Søhesten, so another place to go for your Saturday dance night.

Look up in the sky – And see Kim Larsen

If you wonder what the Copenhagernes are talking about these days, then here is the answer: One of the greatest danish Sing and song writers – Kim Larsen – just passed away at he age of 72. He was living a big part of his young life at Christianshavn, so you will see flowers and candles in the streets, and Vor Frelsers Kirke in the center of Christianshavn has been playing some of his tunes on the bells.
On friday it is celebrated with af parade going from Christianhavn to the Town Hall square, with loads of beer drinking – Cigaret smoking and danish mucisians are playing live cover versions.

Are you sometimes walking around and looking up in the sky and wondering what is up there? Well you can find the answer at: Science and cocktails.  It´s a concept where you get something to drink and then listen to some really long haired talks. This time it is about Black Holes, and here are some of the Questions: Does time come to an end inside black holes? Do black holes exist forever? Did the universe have a beginning? Or was there something before the big bang? Is there only one universe or are there many? Can we hop from one universe to another? Why does the universe bother to exist at all? ? What was Stephen Hawking’s quantum theory of the origin of the universe? (Copy paste from webside)
At all places this is taking place at Byens Lys, the Cinema of Christiania. Be square and be there 😉 Its on saturday and free entrance, and the cocktail are cheap. Cash Only!

And while we are up there in the sky, I will mention that the Louisiana Art Museum in Humlebæk, north of Copenhagen, has an exibtion about the moon. It has received a lot of good reviews in the papers, and should be worth seeing.

The Copenhagen PIX Festival is still on, for the next week and there are loads of fantastic films to be seen. I wish I had more time.

Live music
This week Lygtens Kro is celebrating the Oktober Festival, with loads of german beer and Bratwurst, Jodle battles!!! and good concerts. I am at the Banditos (US) on wendesday, and might also pop by at Saturday with Rambo Banjo and the Slickpickers. But also on thursday and friday there are concerts.

On wendesday you should go for Alice where you can find and absolute incredible concerts when 1990’s etno/techno Transglobal Underground meets the Albanian wedding orchestra Fanfara Tirana. I have seen both bands at Roskilde Festival, and the mix /of these to sounds like it could be the concert of the month!!! Truly World music. ❤

Friday Culture Box  is hosting one of the best DJ´s of our time when Sasha gives a unique concert, that you will remember for a long time. Buy your ticket in advance, sinsce it is almost sold out.

For your weekly doze of Psych and Stoner go to Loppen and get a full dosis with tree bands playing, and combining Kraut it into

Saturday go for Islands Brygge Culturehouse and the KutiMangoes, with there incredible etno pop sound. And remember your dance shoes.

For some mone shine lickering outlaw country go for KB 18  and be prepared for Bob Wayne and his cover versions of everything from Rihanna to the Offspring.

Faster!! Louder!!
In Ungdomshuset there is a weekend of Grind core with a big festival with mostly scandinavien bands. It is with two stages, cheap warm beers and bonfires in the courtyard. Cash Only!

Photo: Pacific Swell performing at Islands Brygge Culture House.

Christiania Birthday Party and PIX

It is the end of the month, and money is running out. And there are no more free outdoor events left. So here are a few tips.

Art
There are two exibitions you can go and see: At Politikens Hus, you can see ”World Press Photo” with pictures of the best news photos from the past year. Be prepared for some heavy shit. Some of them are not very nice.

At Charlottenborg – The Art School – in Nyhavn You can right now find the BigArt thing with danish architecture company Bjarke Ingels Group. They have been cooperating with different artist, such as Ai Weiwei and Lars Von Trier.

Movies and Films
Another big thing in Copenhagen right now is the Copenhagen Film Festival Pix, starting on Thursday September 27th and for the nex two weeks. A lot of premiers and new films, in cinemas all over Town. Also there are a festival for Kids ”Buster”, and there are all sorts of different subjects, such as Film with and about musicians. And there is workshops for kids and adults and much more…

One of the films is 2001: A Space Odessey by Stanley Kubrick in an Imax version. Sounds like a fantastic experience.

Sports
The Copenhagen Roller Derby Team are having visitors from Jutland on saturday afternoon. It is a fast going contact sport, with women in tattoos and stockings. Very entertaining and starts at 2 PM at DGI byen. FB event

Christiania 47th birthday
The only place to be at Wendesday September 26th is at Christiania. 47 years after the hippies turned over the fence, a lot has changed at Christiania. But there are free concerts at Månefiskeren, Woodstock, Nemoland and Loppen along with other places. It is a great party!!!
I say congratulasions to all the good people of Christiania – and fuck all the violent, money addicted, drug dealers, standing and selling there shit dope.

Live Music

Tuesday 25th at Mojo – the Blues Bar at the center there is this little concert, that I think will be very good. The new thing about Mojo is that they have dropped the indoor smoking, which I think is nice. So you are not leaving the bar with stinking Nicotine clothes. Elias Bendix is playing Jazz / soul.

For a great Metal party head to Lygtens Kro on Friday 28th with metal DJ´s paying. It is free, and the Beer is not to expensive.

Another cheap place, at the end of the month is Ungdomshuset, it is coming to an end of the 10 years birthday month. And on friday it is with a electronic music party, with some of the best underground DJ in the city.

Also at KB 18 in the meat packing District there is electronic DJ´s performing at a not to expensive price.

Saturday you can head for Christianshavn Bådudlejning, which is a restaurant and bar in the Canal. There is Dale Smith Blues Band playing, for the end of summer party. Normally a lot of boats comes and join the party, so the canal is filled up with boats, and all sorts of nice people. A really good party.

Free concert Is also possible at Mærkbar, Vesterbrogade. When ”The Elephant Suit” is entering the room. It is a very small, and there is no stage as such. But always a cosy atmophere. Its at Saturday.

At the other end of town, head for Operaen in Christiania for some Brazilian dancing with funk and samba. It is normally cheap to get in, and the drinking is cheaper than most other places.

But the week is not over until sunday: At Islands Brygge Beboerhus you can hear the amazing Pierre Dørge and the New Jungle Orchestra, Playing there super fantastic music. Prepare to be dancing, until your feet hurts.

Photo: Christiania Birthday Party on wendesday

Do you Remember? The 21st night of September?

Earth, Wind & Fire. Still cool 😀

Here we go for another splendid week in the city. Strugling to keep up the summer spirit, while the winter is creeping in on us.

Walk and listen

Metropolis is presenting another event when you can be part of a Audio walk, that will take you around Copenhagen. You will be presented with different sight specific stories and atmopheres on the tour. It takes two hours. Sounds very new and interesting.

I cant find any good partys for tuesday and Wendesday, so we jump straigt to Thursday:

Thursday is cool rock
Skambankt is a Norweigian band playing good old Rock´n roll. The meaning is ”Beaten to Pulp”, and they are playing at Hotel Cecil in the center of town near Strøget.

And another good Rock band is performing at Stengade, when Demon Head are entering the stage, and is taking over the room, with there guitar / Psych / Stoner Rock. Sings in Danish which is kind of cool. September 20th

If you are more of the etnich kind, then head for Alice and the Moroccan / Basque band Gabacho Maroc – September 20th . Playing music inspired by the Berbian Gnawa music, it is a long night with trance like music, that makes you dance for hours.

I havn´t really found any good music on Friday, but why not go skating with Friday night skaters. I think it is the last one for the season. A sure sign of the coming winter.

Christiania Punks and reggae legends
Saturday you can join me when the old Punks of Copenhagen meet together for the annual ”We are almost still alive” event. The grey hairs – If there are any hair left – is dominating when local legends are playing at the last dance. It is at Rockmaskinen Christiania. You wil find me at the bar.

Also at Christiania you can meet other and bigger legends when Toots and the Maytals are performing at The Grey Hall. They are from the Bob Marley time and are of course from Jamaica. The chance of a lifetime!!! September 22nd Afterparty at Loppen

Ungdomshuset – In Nordvest – are still celebrating there ten years anniversary month, with a ”Night of curiosities side show”. Suspension, fakires, sword swallowers and much more. Its in the big concert Hall, and there are live bands in Dødsmaskinen. Among those are Vagina Dentata, if you dare to come.

Photo: Hola Ghost at the mexican party on Blågårds Plads

Dancing in September

There are still a lot of outdoor activities even though we are in the middle of september and its getting colder.

Dancing
Detour is a dance festival taking place mostly at Frederiksberg at the Edison Theater. Its a lot of new urban dancing – Hip Hop – Only Female – and much more. Most of it in the coming weekend and with a different program every day.

Dont fear the weird
We all now this about weirdness. It is somehow repulsive, but yet, you cant help to be a little attracted to it. Letting yourself lose control. And it is theme in many movies, like Scorseses Taxi Driver. I have some friends that I call weird, whatever they are suffering from. Weirdness is the theme for the four day film festival that is presented in Cinemateket,  and arranged together with different psychiatric organisations. Runs from Tuesday September 11th to Friday 14th .

Folkets Hus in Nørrebro, has just reopened after being closed for almost a year, because of trouble with the local gangs. Wendesday they are making a birthday party. With vegan food, music, films, quiz and storytelling.
If you like a more loud evening, go to Raahuset, Vesterbro  for some italian Ska / punk band, with two danish warm up bands.

Thursday in Mayhem, the electronic scene in Østerbro, near the Candy Factory. The perfect spot for a industrial evening with bands from Australia and Germany. Arranged by  Bragagild.

Also very experimental is Embryo, that is legendary Jazz / Kraut Rock band formed in Germany 1969. Also very Frank Zappa like, but non of the original members are left in the band. They are playing thursday at Alice in Nørrebro.

In one of my favorite bars – Lygtens Kro, Nørrebro – they are having a visit from France when The Baked Beans (What a name for a french band) is dropping by, playing there 1960´s psychedelic garage rock, and supported by Danish FYR. Thats on thursday 14th .

More french is at the Opera in Christiania, when they have rappers dropping by. Could be a fun evening with Hip Hop in french. Its on friday

More friday evening is the small cafe of Kimia, in Blågårdsgade, Nørrebro, where they are having Reggae icon Princess T giving a DJ set. Its often very nice with these evenings in Kimia. Hygge and so so.

Loppen has Fastpoholmen playing. The are danish/ swedish and are a local band. (Like in very very local). Folk and a bit of ethnic. Expect a big party.

This weeks Death Metal is out at Ungdomshuset, with bands playing Saturday and Sunday. It is part of the big birthday party that takes place in all September. Remember ear plugs!!!

Street party at The Red Square

In The Red Square at Nørrebro there is a big street party celebrating the etnical divercity of the neighbourhood. It continues on Sunday, when the main street – Nørrebrogade is closed, so there is chalk drawing at the street, a flea market and shops are selling for cheap prices. A nice day. This is because the annual Half Marathon are closing the street anyway. So why not make it into a party.

Mexico is far away, but on Saturday it comes a bit closer when the Mexican Embassy is celebrating the Mexican independence day. It with bands, food and I except som tequila as well. And not cheap stuff they sell in the supermarkets, but the real thing. At Blågårds plads. Nørrebro.

Photo: Feridah Rose performing at the World Music Festival last week

World music, Kil Town and Tech are the festivals of the week

So now we are into september, and the weather is still nice and comfy.

World music festival
Again this year, there is the World Music festival. Starting with a opening concert at the Town Hall Square, and going on until sunday. There are concerts and workshops taking place alle over the city. A lot of music from all over the world, and many of the musicians are residents in Denmark or the neighbouring countries. So it is not the big international names, but more local stars. Full program
On wendesday you should go and hear Rambo Banjo and the Slickpickers, playing blues grass at Bobuska in Linnesgade.

Kil Town
Kill- Town Death Fest, is in Pumpehuset, and also in Byhaven. A hole lot of metal a bands are ready to grease your ears with the sweet sound of metal. In byhaven it is free of charge, and indoor it is sold out.

Tech
If you understand the lingo, you will be a lot wiser. The Tech festival is taking place at the Meat Packing District in Vesterbro. A lot of talks, seminars and workshops. So a lot of nerds will be around. It is 200 DKK for a writsband and it is from Wendesday to Saturday. On friday You can go to Underwerket in Valby where there are a couple og young punk bands playing in ”punks undead vol 77”.

Loppen has an all girl surf band, off course from LA California. La Luz is playng with a swedish support band ironically called The Boys. Its saturday.

Also on saturday at  Alice you can find the Danish /Turkish Takaf playing. In the 1960´s and 70´s there was a psych wave in Turkey from Ankara and Istanbul, and this is what Tukaf is about. Could be a absolutely faboulous concert.

More world music – but not part of the festival – at Operaen Christiania, when Balkan vs Swing are inviting the German band The Goodnight Circus for a concert. A lot of dancing in there, and with late night Djs you are in for a party all night. Bring cash!!!

Climate March
We are all concerned over the Climate, but who is actually doing something? Saturday September 8th is World Climate Day,  with demonstratins all over the world. In Copenhagen it is at Thorvaldsens Plads at 1 PM. There are also a lot of other events. So this is your chance to raise your voice.

Flea markets
We are still in the Flea market season, so here are the streets and areas, where you have the chance of finding good cheap stuff in the weekend:
Saturday: Willemoesgade, Østerbro.

Sunday: Onkel Dannys Plads at Halmtorvet, Vesterbro – Islands Brygge – Studenterhuset, opposite the Round Tower at Købmagergade – At Reffen, the local handicraft artist are selling there unic stuff,

And then at Folkets Hus, Nørrebro there is a cake competion. So if you love cake like I do, it is 5 kroners a piece.

Photo: Origami dance performance at Ofelia Square, opposite the Opera House

Autumn has hit the country, and we will turn more towards indoor activities. The live music venues are opening up again, and we are reaching the last outdoor performances.

If you wonder about the high security level in the center of Copenhagen, it is because President Macron of France is on a official visit. It is tuesday and wendesday.

Freedom Music Festival  is a 6 day indoor thing starting Tuesday. Taking place at Koncertkirken in Blågårds Plads and at Cinemateket at Gothersgade. It is mostly something like improvisasions from all over the world and just a couple of concerts at day. Organised by Troels from Insula Music record shop.

Another small festival is Copenhagen Song Writers Festival , lasting for five days and starting on wendesday. A lot of hopefull local talents with a guitar are turning up. Might be here we are finding the next Leonard Cohen 🙂
It is at Raahuset – Onkel Danny Plads at Vesterbro.

Nordic fado

On friday you can find this Little concert at the Cafe Globen where the Fado of Portugal will meet the folk music of Scandinavia. It is nothing big, but it sure will bring you in a good mood. My good friend Anne is playing the Violin, and I can say without lying, that she is the best in Denmark with a fiddle

Slap stick – tight rope
With something inbetween a clown and a super tightrope walker this is something special to watch. Miettes from France are performing, and there are free tickets here in the weekend. Its at three different venues, and I think it will an experience of a lifetime. I have booked tickets to Thursday August 30th . Arranged by Metropolis.

More bodies moving
Origami is the japanese art of paper folding. I dont know how it is possible to combine Origami with shipping containers and dancing. But this is what is happening at Ofelia Plads at the harbour and Skuespilhuset (The Playhouse). It is Saturday and Sunday september 1st and 2nd .

More Live music
Three of the best live music venues are opening up after the summer break. Loppen with Local Indie band Two Trick Pony playing on friday Augsut 31st . The day before GZA from Wu Tang clan is performing, but it is sold out. And there is something for you Black metal hearts when danish Solbrud is playing Sunday sepetember 2nd. This could turn out to be a very good concert.

At Alice you can find the new program with world and jazz music. And here I will mention the Thurday concert with ghanesian King Ayisoba, and especially the friday concert with Saharan desert blues Bombino. Its sold out, so you have to try your luck at the door, or check facebook for tickets in excess.

And Ungdomshuset in Nordwest are making a 10 years birthday month with all sort of concerts and other events. Remember the Folkekøkken every thursday at 6 o´clock with vegan food. Friday 31st there is a really super line up, speareheaded by Lucy Love playing grime, but you can also find Copenhagen punk legends President Fetch and War Of Destruction.

Back to the future
What to do on a sunday with a hangover? For the nerds you can go to Cinemateket and the Back to the future film triology. 6 hours of film starting in the afternoon, and going well into the evening. Its in english with danish subtitles.
